The view down Sixth Street

The view towards the Target Center from Marquette Ave. I accidently loaded two versions of this view and like the way the City Center stacks in the photos.
The real hidden treasure in this shot, however, is that you can see four skyways at once. I tried to time it so there were silhouettes in all four.

Koi in the morning fog

Zen garden at Normandale Community College, Bloomington, Minnesota. Koi in the pond, about 7 a.m. today. It was foggy and looked cool, but the temperature was in the high 70's already that early in the morning. My lenses fogged up when I got out of the car, and I had to wait several minutes for the them to clear up as they reached air temperature outside.

Taking the pain out of dentistry

Holly, on the left, and Debbie, on the right, help make my visits to the dentist something to appreciate. Dr. Kris Kalenda's office in Bloomington has been an oasis of competent practice and friendly encounters. That's me in the background, appearing to sneak up to tickle them. In fact, I am taking their picture, and that is a mirror. You knew that.

Sam and Ugaso in Azia

Sam, just back from Japan. We celebrate with him and Ugaso in Azia, which is closing soon. In the meantime, we discovered some great wasabi tuna, sukiaki, and saki.

This is Deb on the left, who is the assistant to Dr. Kris Kalenda on the right. They are doing wonders for my teeth right now. They want to do even more. I will let them. It is hard to say "no" to people who make your smile even brighter.

Woke up to a real live fairy tale this morning

There is a Japanese garden nearby. I had to test a used camera so Sara and I got up at sunrise and went over to take a few pictures. It was serene, aesthetic, timeless.

I got this camera for $60 on eBay recently. Out of curiousity, I looked up the original price in the 1916 Graflex catalog, and it was $88. I looked up a conversion for 1916 dollars to 2010 dollars, and found that $88 in 1916 would be about $1600 in 2010! Then I converted 2010 $60 to 1916 $ and it came up as about $2.80. I think I got a deal, but I will tell you later when I get the first photos out of this cuddly little dude.
It has Morroccan leather on a Mahogany wood frame and box. I am in the midst of lots of information swirls about it on various sites and in email, and have stopped just short of giving it a name as a member of the family.

Spicer Castle is actually a Tudor Manse B&B run by the Lawsons.

There are no Spicers or Castles involved in the retreat on Green Lake, in Kandyohi county. But the place was an excellent July 4th weekend retreat for us this year.

The amenities

Dinner came with a view of Green Lake that was threatened by storm, an empty threat that yielded several picturesque light effects and no thunder or lightning.
