A stone
The stone here is quite large, I guess over 800 lbs. It didn't ask the two trees to grow so close, and then to impose upon it in the pushy sensual way of trees. What are the odds that two similar size trees would spring up spaced so precisely in relation to the granite dowager? Why, it it is a disgrace to statistics, while begging the question of metaphors about "mediation" or "three's company".
